Why finance agents need a spreadsheet engine

Finance still runs on spreadsheets. AI has to work with them, not around them

Investors build and defend their models in spreadsheets. Accountants close the books and sign off in them. Same reason on both sides: with real money and real accountability on the line, every number has to be checkable by the person who answers for it, not the output of a black box. Spreadsheets are here to stay, but they need to be made fully accessible to AI in a reliable way.

Agents without dedicated tools struggle with spreadsheets

When an LLM needs to read or modify a spreadsheet, it typically has to generate code on the fly to interact with the file. That code is generated fresh each time and is costly in tokens. As spreadsheet complexity grows, so does generation time and failure rate.

A better way to work with spreadsheets

GRID exposes a structured interface that gives AI systems direct access to read, edit and generate spreadsheets through high-level operations. This means fewer tokens spent generating code, faster responses, and workflows that scale reliably as spreadsheet complexity grows.

Built for Finance AI Products

Investment & Deal Intelligence Platforms

For research, diligence, valuation & underwriting

Build agents to research opportunities, run diligence, value assets, and underwrite deals across public and private markets. That work is built on spreadsheet models like a DCF or an LBO, where every number has to be right and defensible.

Spreadsheets are the right place to run these models, and GRID lets you keep them there by giving your agents direct, structured access to read, calculate, and build them. Bring your product into the agentic era without leaving the spreadsheet behind.

Accounting, Audit & Tax

For closing, reconciling, auditing and preparing tax

Build AI workflows to close the books, run audit workpapers, or prepare tax. This work runs in spreadsheets, and it is regulated: a person has to trust the result and see how the agent got there before they sign off.

GRID gives your agents a deterministic spreadsheet engine, so the workpapers and schedules they build foot, tie, and stay traceable for the person who owns the result.

What your product gets

A spreadsheet foundation your users can trust

Numbers that match Excel

Deterministic recalculation delivers the exact results your users expect in Excel, ensuring models and workpapers hold up to scrutiny.

Deploy inside your security boundary

Run the engine in-browser, on-device, or directly within your private cloud infrastructure. Sensitive financial data stays strictly inside your application.

Agents that work with models, not around them

Your agents read cells, run calculations, and edit workbooks through a structured interface, instead of generating brittle code that breaks as models grow.

A real spreadsheet surface

Give users a familiar editor to inspect and adjust a model, or a lightweight viewer to read one, without sending them out to Excel.

In Production

Working with a leading AI for finance platform we built a custom Excel add-in

When our customer needed to give their AI assistant safe, high-speed access to native Excel, they partnered with GRID to build their own custom Excel add-in.

Instead of letting off-the-shelf Excel assistants manipulate live workbooks directly, their custom assistant runs domain-specific financial skills through the GRID engine. By sandboxing execution, GRID validates logic and catches errors before a single cell changes, ensuring agents never corrupt a critical model.

From initial architecture to production deployment, we worked hand-in-hand with their team to deliver a real differentiating feature of their product.
