Build a website calculator for lead generation in 4 steps

Do you find yourself investing a lot of time into guiding prospects through understanding your complex pricing model? Struggling to know which leads to prioritize, or wasting time on leads that turn out to not afford your product or service?

If you recognize your business challenges in any of these questions, interactive website calculators can be a game-changer for your lead generation efforts. Read on for a step-by-step guide on how to build one with GRID - no coding needed!

The key benefits of website calculators

  • Increase your website conversion rate: calculators are engaging and easy to use.

  • Educate your potential customers: leads who have had the opportunity to explore your pricing model (example) or calculate the savings they could gain from switching to your solution or service (example) are a lot more informed and more likely to lead to closed deals.

  • Better lead capture: instead of having people hand over their contact information in exchange for a whitepaper, you gain an incredible amount of insight into each lead as they fill out the calculator: their needs and requirements, how much they’re currently spending, their pricing expectations, and more.

  • Improved lead qualification: equipped with rich information about your lead, you can better prioritize your pipeline and focus your efforts on the leads that are most likely to close.

Build a lead-gen calculator with GRID: a step-by-step guide

Step 1
First, we need a spreadsheet. GRID offers a spreadsheet editor called GRID Sheets where you can set up your spreadsheet if you don’t have one already. If you already have a spreadsheet, you can easily connect (via Dropbox or Google Drive for example) or upload your Excel or Google Sheet to GRID.

Step 2
When the data is ready, we start building. Create inputs, sliders and formula outputs to offer interactivity to your calculator. Here’s an example of a lead-gen calculator created in GRID, where we used a drop down element to make it possible to choose between different products, a slider to adjust the quantity, check-boxes to select add-ons and then a formula output to show the final price.

Step 3
To the right of the calculator, we have a form. To create a form in GRID, you use input fields to capture relevant information like name and email, and then you add a submit button. The submit button can send emails, it integrates to Zapier and captures user input in a GRID table. More information on how forms are set up here.

Step 4
Now, you have a beautiful lead-generating calculator that’s ready to be embedded on your website. GRID seamlessly embeds to any website - simply paste the embed code to the relevant place in your website. The code can be found in the embed menu at the top of your GRID document 🤝

Now - what to do with all your new leads? With GRID, you can send the submissions you get from your leads to your CRM software, for example Hubspot. Here are instructions for how to set up that workflow.

GRID is also a great tool to analyze your incoming leads. Like we mentioned above, GRID captures the submissions from your embedded calculator. That means, if you’re interested in analyzing the data, you can do so in GRID:

  • Lead captures are shown as a data source in GRID. Create a new document, and connect the lead captures from your form. The lead captures will be called the same as the GRID document that you created your form in.

  • When you’ve connected your lead capture data, you will be able to analyze your data in the GRID document. We have a pretty powerful tool called Chart builder that can assist you in doing your analysis - no need for complex data manipulation!

So there we go - with GRID, you can transform your spreadsheets into interactive lead-generating calculators on your website. Get better leads and stop sending spreadsheets!
