How to switch from notioncharts.io to GRID: a step-by-step guide

Now that notioncharts.io is no longer available, many of you may be searching for an alternative. Fortunately, GRID is here for you, providing a smooth transition that allows you to get your charts up and running in a matter of minutes! With GRID, the possibilities are endless – not only can you create beautiful visualizations like charts, but you can also transform your Notion database into a smart spreadsheet with access to AI formula assistance.

This opens the door to incorporating interactive elements that breathe life into your Notion pages. Embed interactive charts or take it a step further with comprehensive business plans, calculators or dynamic dashboards. With our free plan, you can connect 1 cloud data source (like your Notion database) and create up to 3 documents with unlimited charts in each document.

Follow these 3 easy steps to get going:

1. In your Notion account, navigate to the left corner and go to ‘Settings & members’ and then ‘My connections’. Locate GRID and click ‘Connect’. If you don’t have a GRID account, you’ll get a pop up window to create an account. If you have an account and are logged into GRID, your account will now be connected to Notion.

2. Next, head over to GRID, create a new document and select ‘Add existing data’. Click the Notion icon and select the pages you want to sync to GRID.

Then select the database you want to connect to GRID.

3. You’re all set! You should see your chosen database in the data panel. Note that your database appears in alphabetical order in GRID, so it might look a bit different than on your Notion page.

You’re ready to start creating charts like you built with Notioncharts, and you can even use GRID’s Chart builder if you need a helping hand. You’ll be given the option to use the chart builder when you connect your Notion database. You can also access it from the plus menu when adding one of the four supported chart types to your document: Column, Bar, Area or Line. Once activated, the chart builder will be visible in the bottom right corner of the data panel. You can learn more about the chart builder in this short tutorial:

Next, let’s put your visualization back into Notion. There are a couple of ways to do this:

  • Copy the link to your GRID document and paste it to your Notion page

  • Copy the link to your GRID document and use the /embed function in Notion, but make sure you enable embedding in the sharing settings.

If you only want to embed a part of your document (one chart for example) you can click on the chart, go to the embed tab on the far right, and copy the embed link. Now paste that chart’s link to Notion or use the /embed function.

To learn more about connecting your Notion database to GRID and creating charts we recommend this short video or see the full GRID + Notion guide.

There might be specific cases where more aggregation of your data is needed than the chart builder offers. In those cases you can use the Query function. To learn more about Query watch this quick tutorial:
